BAFTA Children and Young People Awards Opening Titles and Ceremony Animations
Back in 2017, BAFTA gave me the opportunity to pitch to create the new opening animation for the BAFTA Children's Awards ceremony. The only stipulation was that I needed incorporate the existing poster and brochure illustration created by the super talented Graham Carter. Using his illustration as the world setting, I expanded the view and made some quick examples of how I saw this world coming to life in my head.
Luckily, my vision was shared and I won the job!
It was a pleasure working with such a wonderfully textural illustration style and this job, from start to finish, was a joy.
The above opening titles were re-used for a few more years and then covid hit.
In 2022 BAFTA felt ready to try and bring the live ceremony back into a room with guests, celebrities and everything!
BAFTA kindly asked if I would be interested in creating a new opening sequence for them. Of course I was! With just the key artwork as inspiration, created by BAFTA's in-house graphic designer Abigail Bills.
With a rough mood board and a tight deadline, the brief was pretty open and it was initially a challenge to land on something that everyone liked. After a little experimentation I eventually come up with something that I felt didn't 'suck' and it developed and evolved over the course of production into something I'm really proud of.
